If you haven’t noticed, we here at Uxibal are, well, we’re feminist AF!!! So today, International Women’s Day, has got us pretty excited. To do our part, we are joining the #DayWithoutAWoman (#NosotrasParamos) movement sparked by the success of the Women’s March on Washington. As they point out, the goal is to recognize “the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system–while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity.” At Uxibal, without women, we don’t exist and today we want to honor that by taking collective action and we’ve outlined 5 ways you can too!
1.Take the Day Off:
Women, don’t work. Whether paid or unpaid, if you are able to, don’t do it today. If you need ideas for an ‘Out of the Office’ auto-response email, click here.
2. Don’t $pend:
As half of the population, we have a lot of consumer power. Men can join us on this one too. Don’t shop* today.
3. *Shop Women Owned:
So this may contradict what we just said about not shopping, buuuuuut, if you are supporting women-owned businesses, shop it up. Here are a couple of our favorite women owned businesses in Guatemala:
Ketzali Accessories, Luna Zorro, Stela 9, Monasita, Zila, Tixar, Kakaw Designs, Alessa, BOHO, Casa de Los Gigantes, C’Santos, just to name a few!!
4. Wear Red:
If you are not able to do any of the above, show your solidarity by wearing red. 5. Hit the Streets:
Find out what is going on in your city and participate! If you’re in Guatemala, this is going on today in Antigua. And this in Guatemala City.
