Most of you have probably heard of the “no poo” trend, the one where you don’t wash your hair. As much as I wish I could jump on board, one of the things I hate most is having greasy hair. But we all know that washing every day isn’t that good for our locks either. I typically wash every other day, if I’m lucky I can make it two days without washing. So on the in between days, dry shampoo is my best friend! When I first came down to Guatemala I brought the aerosol cans of PSST spray. But I quickly ran out and I never really liked the white spray, my hair always ended up looking a bit grey. So I decided to make my own!
For dark hair:
1/3 cup of cocoa powder
2 tablespoons of cornstarch – arrowroot powder is a better option, but unfortunately we can’t get it here in Guatemala
A few drops of essential oil (this is optional)
For light hair:
1/3 cup of cornstarch – again, arrowroot powder is a better option
2 tablespoons of baking soda
A few drops of essential oil (optional)
Just mix all the ingredients together in a container with a lid (I use a small mason jar). To apply, just dust a bit onto an old makeup brush and apply to the oily parts of your hair. Remember, a little goes a long way. If you use too much, you may have trouble blending it into your hair.
For all your travel bugs, dry shampoo is such a lifesaver. We all know travel can be unpredictable (delayed flights, cancelled busses, broken down cars), so for the days when you can’t wash just whip out your dry shampoo to keep your hair looking fresh and clean!
